Bucktail & Hair Jigs

Bucktail and Hair Jigs – Proven Fish-Catching Lures for Bass, Yellowfish & Predatory Species

Bucktail and hair jigs are classic, versatile fishing lures that continue to produce fish in a wide range of conditions. Their natural-looking hair or fibre dressing creates subtle movement in the water, even when the lure is barely moving, making them an excellent choice when fish are pressured, inactive or feeding on small prey.

Whether you're targeting bass, yellowfish, tigerfish, bream or other predatory freshwater species, bucktail and hair jigs offer a simple but highly effective presentation. They can be cast, hopped along the bottom, retrieved through structure or worked at different depths to match the feeding behaviour of the fish.

The natural pulsating action of the hair creates an enticing profile without requiring an aggressive retrieve. This makes bucktail jigs particularly effective when fish want a slower, more subtle presentation. Add a soft-plastic trailer such as a grub, craw or minnow to increase the profile and action, or fish the jig on its own for a compact baitfish or insect-style presentation.

Versatile & Easy to Fish

Bucktail and hair jigs can be used in shallow water, deeper structure, rocky areas, drop-offs and around cover. Experiment with slow hops, short lifts, steady retrieves and pauses until you find what the fish want.

They are especially useful for targeting fish around rocks, submerged vegetation, timber and deeper holding areas, where their compact profile allows you to get into productive zones and stay in the strike zone.
