Heddon Super Zara Spook Smoker 4.5in 3/4oz
Bass that have seen every rattling walker this season will still eat a bait that says nothing.
The Heddon Super Zara Spook is a 4.5-inch, 3/4-ounce silent walker with no rattle chamber at all — a fixed lead weight in the tail supplies the casting mass instead.
Premium black nickel #2 trebles, a feathered rear hook that keeps breathing on the pause, and large 3D eyes come standard.
Silence is the presentation.

A large-profile walking bait with no rattle at all
The Heddon Super Zara Spook is a 4.5 in, 3/4 oz topwater walking bait built for clear water and heavily pressured bass. It shares the large-profile silhouette of the rattling Spooks but carries no rattle chamber, no loose ballast and no internal noise of any kind.
Silence on a bait this size is a manufacturing problem before it is a fishing one. Most large walking baits buy their casting distance with loose weight that shifts to the tail in flight, and that shifting weight is what makes the noise. The Super Zara Spook fixes the lead permanently in the tail instead. The mass still sits behind center, so the bait carries on a long cast, but nothing inside can move and nothing can knock. Fixing the weight also steadies the pivot point, so the nose swings through a tighter arc than a rattling bait's wide slash.
What comes on the bait
Every Heddon Super Zara Spook ships with premium black nickel #2 treble hooks and a feathered rear treble. The feather is not decoration: a bare treble goes visually dead the instant the retrieve stops, while the feather keeps breathing on slack line and gives a following fish something to react to. A split ring on the nose lets the line pull from a free-swinging point, which is what lets the bait break left and right instead of tracking straight. One bait per pack.
You used to choose between casting distance and silence
Topwater walking baits have carried one unresolved tradeoff for decades: distance and noise came from the same component. Loose internal weight is what throws a big surface bait into wind, and it is also what announces the bait on every stroke.
In stained water and chop, that noise is an asset, calling fish from beyond sight range. Clear water and calm mornings invert it: bass on pressured lakes hear the same knock several times a week, and it stops being an attractant and becomes the tell. The old workaround, a smaller and lighter silent bait, failed for the opposite reason: spooky fish demand distance, and short casts put the boat inside the strike zone first.
The Heddon Super Zara Spook separates the two functions: its fixed tail weight buys the casting distance a rattle chamber used to buy, with no moving parts at all. When conditions call for noise, the Heddon One Knocker Spook adds a single low knock and the Heddon Rattlin' Spook a full rattle: same profile, three sound levels, chosen by condition rather than by compromise.
The retrieve and where to use it
Cast the Heddon Super Zara Spook into open water over submerged cover such as brush piles and rock, keep the rod tip low, and twitch on a slack line so the nose breaks side to side. Its primary situation is schooling fish: a silent bait can be thrown into the same school repeatedly without shutting it down. It is equally at home in ultra clear water, in heavy traffic, and on shad-locked fish.
When a bass blows up and misses, do nothing. No hookset, no speed-up; both take the bait away from a fish that has already committed. Leave it dead still for a two-count, then walk it in place before moving it forward. Stated plainly: do not set the hook, pause a full two-count, then restart the cadence.
Tips from the water
- Fish it on slack line. A tight line drags the bait forward in a straight track instead of letting the nose pivot, and it is the most common reason a walking bait will not walk.

Match the finish to the light, not just the lake
Color choice on a silent topwater bait is a visibility decision. With no sound doing the work, the finish carries the whole job of getting noticed, and light governs it more than water color alone.

One rule overrides the table: in water clear enough for a bass to inspect the bait, a translucent finish gives it less to reject than a solid one
A silent walking bait is a search tool, and search tools work best in company. The fish the Heddon Super Zara Spook raises are not always the fish it catches.
Size Down
Heddon Zara Puppy
When bass are chasing small shad, step down to the Heddon Zara Puppy. It walks on the same principle in a much smaller profile, which is what you want on pond-sized water, in the backs of creeks, and any time fish are boiling on bait too small to justify a full-size Spook.
Follow-Up Rod
Heddon Super Spook Jr.
Keep a Heddon Super Spook Jr. rigged as the follow-up rod. It sits between the two on size and is the most forgiving walking bait in the family to learn on. When a fish blows up on the Super Zara Spook and misses twice, a smaller profile thrown to the same swirl often closes the deal.
Change the Noise
Heddon One Knocker Spook
Conditions change faster than tactics. When wind builds or the water stains and silence stops paying, the Heddon One Knocker Spook puts a single low knock into the same profile. Carrying both means a weather change costs you one cast. Browse the full topwater lure selection to fill the gaps.
