Skirted Jigs – Bass Fishing Lures

Skirted jigs are one of the most versatile and effective bass fishing lures available, giving anglers a compact presentation with plenty of action. Designed to imitate crawfish, baitfish and other natural prey, a skirted jig can be fished in a wide range of conditions and around different types of cover.

The combination of a weighted jig head, silicone skirt and weed-resistant hook makes skirted jigs particularly effective when targeting bass around rocks, submerged vegetation, timber, reeds, docks and other structure. The skirt pulses and flares as the jig moves, creating an attractive profile that can trigger aggressive strikes from feeding or territorial bass.

Versatile Bass Fishing Jigs

One of the biggest advantages of a skirted jig is its versatility. Fish it slowly along the bottom, hop it through rocky areas, drag it across structure or swim it through vegetation. Skirted jigs can also be paired with a variety of soft plastic trailers, including craws, creature baits, trailers and paddle tails, allowing you to customise the profile and action.

A skirted jig paired with a craw-style trailer creates an excellent crawfish imitation, while a streamlined trailer can turn the jig into an effective swimming bait. This makes skirted jigs suitable for both shallow and deep-water bass fishing.

When to Fish Skirted Jigs

Skirted jigs are especially useful when bass are holding tight to cover or structure. They are a great choice for fishing weeds, rocky banks, laydowns, submerged timber and drop-offs, where traditional lures can struggle to reach fish effectively.
